Smack of Jellies. A group of dolphins is called a pod, a group of fish is called a school, and a group of crows is called a murder. But what is a group of jellyfish called? Many refer to groups of jellyfish as blooms or swarms, but they can also be called a “smack.” As we descended at The Cross / Argentina Point dive site in the Gulf of Papagayo, Costa Rica…we were swarmed with a smack of jellies. It was mesmerizing and I felt like I was part of the Disney movie Fantasia… It is common to see the half moon jellies during March and April…Normally when the water is cold. However this day the water was warm…They are really cool creatures and do not sting…A lot of the fish like to eat them.
